Benefits of Charcoal

Guest blogger – Gabby Davis
Okay. I’ll admit I was a little skeptical about the whole ‘charcoal’ thing with skincare but after a bit of research, it appears as though charcoal does have its benefits when it comes to skincare. It can do things such as draw impurities and toxins out of the skin, and relieve acne which, if you are someone like me who still suffers from the occasional breakout, can be a godsend.
Historically charcoal has been used medicinally. Ancient Egyptians used it to keep wounds clean, and it’s even been used as water filtration. It also has antibacterial properties to reduce infection. When you apply it to your skin, it pulls out all the toxins your skin has absorbed throughout the day.
One of my latest beauty products is Good Earth Beauty Soap Activated Charcoal. Infused with tea tree and lavender essential oils, organic olive, coconut and palm oil, it smells amazing first and foremost. It also has activated charcoal and Shea butter, so it’s soft and gentle on even the most sensitive of skin. Everything is 100% pure and all natural.
I’ve only used it once, but already I can see and feel such a difference on my face. My skin feels clean and refreshed, and I can see a reduction in the acne around my chin which is great!

Another great charcoal based product is the 100 Percent Pure Konjac Charcoal Sponge. It helps to draw out dirt, oil, cosmetics, environmental and other impurities from your pores and buffs away dead skin cells for softer, smoother skin. Add a drop of your favorite facial cleanser and mix with warm water, and buff away! It was as if I was getting an expensive facial at home but without the chemicals. The only ‘ingredients’ you’ll find in this product are the detoxifying konjac plant and bamboo charcoal.
