July 11, 2009 I am a big animal lover – I have 2 rescue cats, can’t kill a bug, and I am a vegetarian. When I started this site it was important to me to only carry brands that don’t test on animals. When you shop this site, you can rest assured that all the companies I carry do not test on animals. Some companies take it a step further, so I thought I would take a minute to explain some of the special features. Many of the brands I carry are listed in the NAVS Cruelty Free directory. NAVS stands for “The National Anti-Vivisection Society”. NAVS is an educational organization whose ultimate goal is the elimination of animal use in product testing, education and biomedical research. Vivisection is the practice of cutting into or using invasive techniques on live animals or dissecting the bodies of animals Many other brands carry the PETA bunny logo. PETA, as most of you probably know, stands for “People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals”. PETA has a caring consumer program, and in order to carry the bunny logo, companies must sign PETA's statement of assurance or provide a statement verifying that they do not conduct or commission any animal tests on ingredients, formulations, or finished products and that they pledge not to do so in the future. Each product on the site will have a “special features” section to tell you which products have these additional designations! Hope you find this helpful! Karen
